The Science behind Dryer Vent Cleaning:
Dryer vent cleaning is the cleaning of the shaft that expels warm air and lint from your dryer to the outside of your home or commercial setting. If this shaft is obstructed or too long, then your clothes dryer will struggle to dry clothes in a timely manner.

a.) The State of Florida is passing legislation now to make sure Dryer Vents are inspected, and cleaned on a yearly basis.
b.) This work needs to be done by a third party (not your maintenance guys).
c.) In the event of a fire in one unit, many others can and will be compromised. You really don’t need that on your resume as you look for a new property providing you still have a license to do so after the literal smoke clears.
d.) Your commercial insurance policies will not pay out on claims like this if you haven’t been doing your annual maintenance.

Are your clothes not drying in one cycle? 95% of the time your dryer vent needs to be cleaned out. Don’t rush to buy another dryer! This is very common. Let Healthy Homes save you some money here. The best way to tell if a dryer vent needs to be cleaned:
1- After a cycle of drying, the top of the dryer is very warm.
2- Dryer lint screen warnings pop up on your newer dryer.
3- Moisture builds up in your dryer.
4- Clothes take multiple cycles to get dry.
Dryer vent cleaning is a growing industry in Florida. Dryer vent cleaning is something that should be done at least every 5 years, but ideal to do once a year. For those of you who love to do handyman projects on your own, this is a 20 minute task that could save your house from catching fire, and/or save you the expense of buying a new set of appliances. If you feel comfortable and capable of doing this yourself, then by all means get to it. Keep in mind that this task will take less than 20 minutes to do. If companies are charging any more than $125 for the service, maybe you should shop around. Dryer vent cleaning isn’t brain surgery, so don’t get wrangled into a high service charge for such a simple task. The most important thing to do is to find the exit point and make sure there are no obstructions. Even something as simple as a stuck flap or louver could burn your house down. The best way to clean is with a brush powered by a drill as shown above in the picture of John outside the building with a hand full of lint. That is normal. You can move the dryer easily away from the wall in your laundry area and detach the hose feeding the brush through there to the outside, or brush from the outside with the dryer running (although you may get showered with lint so do it from the side, and preferably with some PPE).
